I played a banquet gig tonight for 100 math teachers who came to Waterloo from across Canada. Everyone needs to do what’s in their heart. And these people loved math.

I don’t love math.

But what struck me was how music brings all hearts together — no matter what your interest. We are all people of the soul — people with a core that is drawn out with stories, songs and memories.

It was a magical night to sing and tell stories. Every time I sing a song I go back to where I was when I wrote it. I take those movie reels off the shelf and the flicker of the projector takes over.

Thanks for the memories, math teachers in Waterloo.

I’m playing lego with my 5-year-old. We’re making spaceships. I tell him that you just let your imagination guide you. Really though, it’s him teaching me about imagination. One piece after the other is placed — each takes the ship into a slightly different direction. Soon, it’s an amazing creation. Piece by piece — that’s the imagination. That’s life too. You miss out if you stop building. The next piece put in place could mean the launching of a new idea or a new perspective. Lots to learn from a 5-year-old.

My last post was in May. It’s August. Where has summer gone. But more, I’m struck by how life moves on to other things. Hopefully I’m back in the saddle.
